Clean and Simple Easy Events Cards

Easy Events is one of the stamp sets I got with my Stampin' Up Convention registration. It is such a versatile set to have in your collection! The images are clean and simple, so I thought they would lend themselves well to a set of clean, white on white cards. There are eight images in total in this set, and the ladies who attended my Easy Events class made eight cards altogether, one with each image. The images are coloured in with Stampin' Pads and Blender Pen, and I used either Crystal Effects or Dazzling Diamonds/Two-Way Glue Pen for a bit of embellishment.

Back from a Break

Hello stampers! I can't believe July has already come and gone! I got busy at the beginning of July preparing all my swaps for Stampin' Up! convention, then I was away at Convention, and since then, I've been busy hosting some students from Japan and showing them around Vancouver. Check out where we went yesterday: Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver. It is so breathtaking there! We hiked through shady trails surrounded by old growth forests and picnicked on the sun drenched rocks with the ocean breeze cooling us. As a local, you sometimes forget about all the great places close to home, and I love playing tourist in my own town when I host visitors. I didn't intend to be away from my blog for so long, but I'm back; thanks for your patience!

Today's card is a swap I did for an organized swap at Convention. The swap was organized by my friend and sideline, Ida Chan. Thanks Ida, for organizing such a great swap! At Convention, you can swap anytime with anyone else who is swapping cards, and you can also sign up to participate in organized swaps that have a theme or focus. If you live in the Vancouver area, you'll understand what this card is all about ;) For those of you who don't, allow me to explain. Our city is in the midst of hockey playoff fever right now. Our local team, the Vancouver Canucks, are poised to win the Stanley Cup for the first time in the team's forty year history! Needless to say, Vancouverites are pumped and the energy can felt all around the city!

This card is for my hubby's birthday today. He's always been a huge Canucks fan, so when I got to work on his card yesterday, I knew I wanted it to Canucks-themed. This is the team's "stick in rink" logo that is on their jerseys, and the "wish big" sentiment from Word Play is SO appropriate; we are all "wishing big" for our beloved Canucks to take home the cup!

I am so delighted to share this card with you today. My sister gave birth to a beautiful baby girl two weeks ago, and this is the card I made her. I love these Beveled Windowpanes; they add such a special touch to any card or project. Did you know they are still available to order? Yup, a special selection of products from the Occasions Mini Catalogue, which officially 'ended' at the end of April, is still available through the end of June. I made this basket last week for Easter using the gorgeous eggs image from the Nature Walk stamp set. This set is only available for one more day in the Occasions Mini Catalogue. It's not a set that I would define as my usual style, but I love the mix of images in it and have found it quite easy to use. I coloured the eggs with my Stampin' Write markers and glazed them with a layer of Crystal Effects. The basket itself is simply four scallop envelope die cuts adhered together.

Happy Easter! I hope you are enjoying Easter weekend. It is a beautiful spring day here, and I can't wait to get outside to enjoy it.

I have a quick and cute teabag holder to share with you today. I cased it from Caroline Skinner, who has a great tutorial for it. As you can see I made two versions, one that closes like a card, and a more simple one. Both are equally adorable. The stamp sets I used, A Slice of Life and You're a Gem, are available in the Occasions Mini Catalog only until the end of April. I used the lovely seam binding ribbon in Very Vanilla and gathered the ends to create some ruffles.

A Slice of Life Sympathy Card

I've had this Hostess Set, A Slice of Life, for a while now, but only just gotten around to playing with it. It is a great set with simple images for colouring and paper piecing. This card measures 4-1/4 by 4-1/4. I coloured the flowers with my Baja Breeze marker and added a dot of Marina Mist in the centre of each flower. I stamped the vase on a scrap of designer paper, cut it out, and adhered it. The Pear Pizazz Seam Binding is so soft and easy to work with. A Slice of Life is available as a Hostess Level 1 set in the Occasions Mini Catalogue only until April 30.

Fox & Friends Baby Cards

Hello stampers! I have two similar baby cards to show you today. I love the super-cute animal images in the Fox & Friends set, and giraffes are such a popular theme for babies right now. I used the inlaid embossing technique for both cards. To achieve this look, simply adhere punched shapes onto a piece of cardstock, then run the cardstock through the Big Shot using the Square Lattice embossing folder. You can use any embossing folder for this technique, but the Square Lattice is my favourite because it has so much texture.

The first card is a gift card holder. I forgot to get a photo of the inside, but it is the same as the one I made here. The front of the card is folded in half, with a slot for the gift card punched out with the Word Window punch.

Fun Flowers, Part 1

Hi Stampers! I had a fabulous time at Stampin' Up's! Vancouver Regional Convention yesterday. The event totally exceeded my expectations; the presentations were excellent, the make n' takes were the best ever, the swaps were top notch, and we were even treated to a 3pm snack of cupcakes! Stampin' Up! treats its demonstrators so well, and I feel lucky to be a part of such a great company.

On to the card; today's card uses the new Fun Flowers die, available in the Occasions Mini Catalogue. It's a Bigz L Die, and offers great value as you get three big, beautiful flowers and two centres from one die. I cased this card from Mary Fish, and she has a video on her blog to show how easy it is to add dimension and a wow factor to your projects with these flowers.

These little milk cartons were fun to make and share, and with the help of the Big Shot, easy to mass produce. I filled each of them with five dark chocolates; I love the size of these little chocolate rectangles from Costco. They nestled in those mini milk cartons perfectly!

Every Little Bit Baby Cards

My dear friend is due to give birth to a baby boy any day now. I am so excited for her, as she already has an adorable little girl, and her family will be complete with the arrival of her baby boy. I made her a set of thank you cards that will come in handy for the gifts she will be receiving.

She loves teddy bears, so I knew this super-cute bear from the Every Little Bit set would be perfect for these cards. Actually, I have to admit, this bear image convinced me that I had to have this set. Look at him in this close-up; how could I resist?!?

Every Little Bit has 28 image stamps in total, and they are all just as cute and versatile as this little bear. They fit perfectly in the Stampin' Up! punches; I punched the bear out with a 1'' circle punch and popped him up on a Scallop Square. It was a cinch to watercolour him quickly with ink and a blender pen. I kept the layout very simple, and made five Chocolate Chip cards and five Crumb Cake cards. I also made a simple box to put the cards and envelopes in and wrapped the whole thing up in a cello bag. I hope she likes them!

Artistic Etchings Gift Card Holder

I was looking for an idea for a gift card holder recently and came across this idea on LeeAnn Greff's blog. I love how it uses a standard sized card (4 1/4 x 5 1/2); you just need to score and fold the front of the card in half lengthwise and use the Word Window punch to create the slot.

I heat embossed and cut out the gold crown, and used my Colour Spritzer tool on the Very Vanilla layer.

White Christmas Tree

Are you dreaming of a white Christmas? It looks like we won't be having one here in Metro Vancouver, but that doesn't mean I can't make it a white Christmas on paper, right? I used the same technique with the scallop circle punch (see my previous post) to make this snowy tree. I just sponged the edges of the scallops a bit with Old Olive ink.

Scallop Circle Christmas Tree Card

Hi Stampers! Sorry for my prolonged absence from blogging recently; as you know, this time of year can get crazy. I do love the Christmas season, and have been enjoying time spent with family and friends, as well as some relaxing time off. We went to check out the Vancouver German Christmas Market this evening; the sights, sounds and smells of this traditional German-style market were lovely. It's definitely a must-do if you're in the Vancouver area.

The card I'm sharing with you today has an awesome 3-D effect, and actually comes together pretty quickly and easily. I first saw this idea for a scallop circle tree on Dawn's blog. She has a great video on how to make it. These trees are a lot of fun to make, and a bit addictive once you get going. Check back tomorrow to see a "snowier" version of this tree.

Here's another quick and simple card to share with you today. This little gingerbread man from the Got Treats? stamp set just puts a smile on my face. The Got Treats set was designed to coordinate with Stampin' Up's mini milk carton die, but the images can certainly be used on cards as well. I coloured in his buttons at first, but I wasn't happy with how it looked, so I added some bling. Much better! To get the smaller size punched with the Word Window, I stamped the sentiment, punched it out with the Word Window punch, then put the end with the excess cardstock in one side of the punch again and punched that side only. 2-Step Bird Punch Christmas Cardinal

Here is another card we made at my Christmas Stamp-a-Stack this past weekend. The idea of using the 2-step bird punch to make a cardinal isn't mine; I think I first saw it on Becky Jensen's blog. I used a Basic Black Stampin' Write marker to draw in the detail on the bird's face, and a white gel pen for the eye. A bit of sponging around the edges of the bird adds depth, and the point on his head is simply another wing stuck behind the head. I found that the weight of the grosgrain ribbon didn't work well for this ruffled ribbon treatment; it lifted off the adhesive after a few days, so I changed the look of the ribbon to a knot for the class.

Dasher Christmas Card

Dasher is one of my all-time favourite Christmas stamps from Stampin' Up! He is graceful and elegant, and yet he also evokes the fun and magic of the Christmas season. This is fairly quick and simple card that we will be making at my upcoming Christmas Stamp-a-Stack.

I cased the layout from Becky Jensen. Dasher is stamped in Early Espresso on Very Vanilla cardstock. I used the Stamp-a-ma-jig to position the sentiment in just the right spot. I ran the Riding Hood Red layer through the Big Shot with the Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder, and sponged it lightly on the raised parts with Early Espresso ink. This really makes the texture pop! I spritzed some Champagne Mist shimmer mist all over for a bit of glow.

Now that Halloween has passed, I am gearing up for Christmas! Here is a Christmas card I made recently with some new products from the Holiday Mini Catalogue. I sponged the snowflakes on the embossed background piece lightly with Whisper White Craft Ink and a sponge dauber. It's hard to tell from the photo, but I also added some Dazzling Diamonds glitter to them with the 2-Way Glue Pen. The little white snowflake above the greeting is from the Northern Frost Decorative Strip. This product offers great value as it gives you eight different snowflakes on one Big Shot die! A few rhinestones on the centres of the snowflakes add shine.

We had Thanksgiving here in Canada this past Monday, and I wanted to whip up a little treat for my dinner guests to take home with them. I saw the idea for this blessing mix and box here on Angie Juda's blog, and thought it was just so cute. I tweaked the mix a bit to include cashews (although we usually have Bugles corn chips in Canada, for some reason I couldn't find them anywhere last week). This adorable owl was made using the new Two-Step Owl Punch; when I saw this punch in the new catalogue, I knew it was going to the top of my must-have list right away. These 3x3'' cards

came together easily and quickly with a few key tools; the owl punch, the branch from the Two-Step Bird Punch, and the Woodgrain background stamp. I hand-wrote the sentiment on the second card with a Stampin' Write marker. The owl is super easy to put together, especially if you make a whole batch of the little guys all at once.

Here's a slightly different take on the card in my last post. Can you spot the differences? I needed to make a quick card to go with a potted plant, so I layered two Top Note die cuts, punched out the greeting with the Designer Label punch and wrote a message on the back. I made this card a while back and never got around to posting it. This is one of my FAVOURITE sets from the Summer Mini Catalog! It's called Watercolour Trio, and it will only be available to order until August 31. Tropical Party Notepad

Here is the little notepad I covered as part of my Tropical Island Oasis Stationery Box. There is still room in the class on Tuesday evening if you're interested.

The notepad is from the dollar store; I simply uncoiled it, covered it with Rose Red cardstock and Island Oasis Designer Paper, and added the "journey" sentiment from Define Your Life. Click on the photo to see it bigger. I stamped off the small flower once before stamping it behind the greeting, so it wouldn't cover up the words. Re-punch the holes at the top, and twist the coil back through the holes. Super simple and cute; I could have added ribbon or other embellishments to further pretty it up, but I thought I'd keep it simple as I'll probably actually bring it with me on my trip to Hawaii to jot down lists and things. The little pink pen is from Staples; they come in a 12-pack, I believe.

I made these little 2''x3'' cards as part of a stationery box set. They fit perfectly inside the Bigshot scallop envelopes. Although I don't usually reach for the Bold Brights, I love the juicy, cheerful colour combination of the Island Oasis DSP that coordinates with the Tropical Party stamp set. Both are available in the Summer Mini Catalogue until August 31. I also love the revamped Brights collection that Stampin' Up! went with for the Colour Renovation; the ten colours in the new Brights are now much more accessible and easy to use than the previous collection.

I absolutely love the look of this week's sketch at Clean & Simple Stamping; everything looks better in threes, don't you think? I used the Little Leaves Sizzlits die and some scraps I had lying around to create this quick card. Swap out the DSP for a non-floral pattern, and this would even make a good masculine card. I hesitated when placing the sentiment in that spot; it seems a shame to cover up the lovely little leaves. I considered placing it underneath, but thought I would stay true to the sketch. What do you think?

Altered Composition Book

I made this altered composition book as part of my entry for the Iron Stamper's Competition I mentioned a couple of weeks ago. I used a plain old composition book from the dollar store, and dressed it up by covering it with designer paper, cardstock and embellishments. I cut the paper to fit and sanded the edges slightly. I adhered the Pretty in Pink satin ribbon to the front and extended it inside to make a bookmark, weighing it down with flower diecuts and a filigree brad. This would make a great gift as a journal for a teenager, or even for a new mom to capture precious memories of all the things she {hearts} about her baby.

This week's Clean & Simple layout was just what I needed! Unfortunately, I haven't had a whole lot of time to stamp lately, and I find that it's best to start simple when my mojo needs a jumpstart. I thought I'd make use of these three In Colours that will soon be retiring; they work well with the Tropical Party stamp set, don't they? The card is 3x3 and I popped up the smaller flower with a dimensional. This definitely qualifies as a five-minute card, but it could easily be stepped up with brads in the centre of the flowers, or some ribbon knotted around the width of the card.

Love Sparkles Scrapbook Layout

I recently took part in an Iron Stamper's Challenge in which each participant was given a Stampin' Up! Simply Scrappin' kit and the task of creating 5 projects with it, including a scrapbook layout, a 5 minute card, a more advanced card, a 3-D item and an altered item. The kit I received was "Love Sparkles"(item 113918), which has a great coordinated selection of designer paper, cardstock and a ton of self-adhesive die cuts. This is the scrapbook layout I came up with; I took these photos of my friend's adorable daughter during spring break when my husband and I visited them in San Diego. She is such an animated little girl, so I thought they would be a fun set of photos to scrap. I added some punch art tulips in the bottom corner of the page to echo the tulips on her dress, and a few butterfly die cuts for interest.

I stamped this a few weeks ago but am only just getting around to sharing it now. Better late than never, right? I really like this sketch from Clean & Simple Stamping; it is simple, yet versatile. I "custom made" some designer paper by stamping the two flowers from Simple Friendship on the Whisper White piece, and sponged the edges of the Crushed Curry butterfly with Bermuda Bay. Avaliability of the Retiring Stampin' Up! Colours

Hi Stampers,

With Stampin' Up!'s recent announcement about the Colour Renovation they expected an increase in orders for the retiring colour products. The response has been amazing! Everyone wants to be sure to stock up on their favorite old colours. As a result of the overwhelming response a few colors have already sold out or been placed on backorder.

In regards to the Reinkers and card stock orders here's what you need to know...

Reinkers will be available through May 31st. Reinkers may be placed and backordered. Backordered reinkers will be shipped when the supply has been replenished. After June 1st, the reinkers will again be available only as supplies last.

The card stock is a much more difficult process to manufacture. There are not sufficient supplies to fill backorders. As a substitute, Stampin' Up! will fill backorders with textured card stock. Effective today, card stock supplies are as supplies last.

If you want to stock up on retiring colour products (reinkers, card stock, ribbon, buttons, and more.), please place your order asap.

I was on a mission to make a birthday card for a dear friend last weekend, and decided to case this card, by Liz Hughes, that I just LOVE. Part of her birthday gift was the cherry blossom water bottle behind the card, so I thought what better stamp set to use than Eastern Blooms. I used Cameo Coral, one of the soon-to-be-retiring colours that I will miss, as the card base. The Raspberry Tart DSP and Kiwi Kiss Corduroy buttons are retired, but are both available in the Stampin' Up! Clearance Rack right now at excellent prices. Notice the cute little hanging tag? That was made using the Tiny Tags stamp set and the Jewelry Tag Punch, available in the Occasions Mini Catalogue until April 30.

Colour Renovation

Stampin' Up! recently announced that they are doing a major colour renovation, and I couldn't be more excited! They are bringing back some old favourites and introducing five brand new colours as well. I'm so happy that Baja Breeze and Pink Pirouette will be back, and can't wait to play with Early Espresso, a deep, rich brown. There are 30 retiring colours, so now is the time to stock up on your favourites before they're gone for good when the new catalogue comes out in July. I'll definitely be stocking up on Close to Cocoa, Pale Plum, Bordering Blue and Cameo Coral.

Clean and Simple FTL 84 - Take Two!

Back in this post, I showed you a card I had made using the sketch above from Clean and Simple Stamping. Like I mentioned before, I totally forgot to make my card square the first time around and went straight to the standard 4.25 x 5.5'' size I often make. My brain must have been on autopilot! Anyway, I did try the sketch again with a square card and am happy with the results. The embossed white card base is something I had in my stash, but could easily be replicated with Whisper White cardstock and Texturz Plates.

Rosette Treat Holder

Remember in this post a while back I mentioned I made a cute 3-D project with the paper rosette? Well, here it is! I used the Two Tags Bigz Die to die cut two of the larger tags. They are adhered at the bottom with Sticky Strip to create a holder for candy, chocolate, soaps, or some other small treat.

Hi Stampers! I've been absent from blogging lately as I just got back from a fabulous week in beautiful, sunny San Diego. Loved it there! We checked out Balboa Park, lots of beaches, San Diego Wild Animal Park and the 59-Mile Scenic Drive. We also loved all the amazing local eateries, from Hodad's in sunny Ocean Beach to the Crest Cafe in eclectic Hillcrest. Check them out if you're ever in the area!

Before I left last week, I came across this lovely blog, Clean & Simple Stamping, and gave their weekly sketch a try. I forgot to keep the card square (oops!) as they had specified, but I came up with a square card using the same layout later on that I will share in my next post.

Notice the subtle background? Click on the photo to get a closer look. I inked up the flower in Pretty in Pink, stamped it off twice to remove most of the ink, and then stamped randomly all over a piece of Whisper White cardstock to create a subtle, custom background.
I coloured in a few sections of the flower using a blender pen and inkpad.
A bit of Crystal Effects and Dazzling Diamonds on the center of the flower give it some bling.
I used my 1 1/4 Circle Punch to punch three half circles in Pretty in Pink.

I was inspired by this card on Angie Juda's blog to make this clean and simple card. I love the look of the white on white; it makes for a striking card with no visual clutter. The card itself measures 4 1/4 by 4 1/4, and the centre piece, which is popped up with Stampin' Dimensionals, is 2 1/4 by 2 1/4. The sentiment is from Picture This, a Level 1 hostess set available through April 30 from the Occasions Mini. The centre image is from Fun & Fast Notes, one of my very first Stampin' Up! stamp sets. This set offers a great variety of images that are perfect for colouring. I used my blender pens and ink pads to do the colouring.

Happy Valentine's Day! Hope you spent your day with someone you love. I was lucky to get to spend my day with MANY loved ones, as Chinese New Year happened to fall on the same day as Valentine's Day this year, so I got to see my whole immediate family, as well as my grandparents and extended family.

On to these ADORABLE little raccoons...I literally swooned when I saw this raccoon on Kimberley Morris' blog and just had to case it. She has even created a tutorial for it. Thanks, Kimberley! The body of the raccoon is a box and the head is made of a Top Note die, held shut with Velcro. Of course, I couldn't stop at just one, so I created a whole family of them and stuffed them with Valentine's treats for the little munchkins in my life.

Animal Crackers Easel Card

I got the inspiration to make this card after receiving a beautiful easel card in a swap from the talented Marlene Peters. It was so much fun to make and I love how it stands up firmly on its own. The cardstock is 4'' x 12'', and scored at 4'', 6'' and 8''. I added some Crystal Effects and Dazzling Diamonds to the star in the giraffe's mouth. Matchbox Drawers

This little set of drawers was a cinch to put together. It could be used to hold chocolates, cash, jewelry...or all three! I'm not sure who originated this idea as I've seen it in so many places; if you know, please let me know so I can give credit.

I simply stacked three matchboxes that were cut using Stampin' Up's exclusive Matchbox Die and wrapped them with a strip of designer paper.
Chocolate Chip Corduroy brads make cute, textural drawer pulls.
Double-stitched Chocolate Chip grosgrain ribbon is a nice finishing touch.
The tag was punched out with the Curly Label Tag; I made the mat for it from the coordinating Movers and Shapers magnetic die.
The sentiment is from Well Scripted; I love the beautiful font!

Remember making milk carton bird feeders, like these, as a kid? These sweet little birdhouses were made using Stampin' Up's new Mini Milk Carton Bigz Die, available in the Occasions Mini Catalogue. I was so excited when I saw that Stampin' Up had released a milk carton die; in the past, I've tried making mini milk cartons by carefully measuring, cutting, scoring, etc. but the die makes it so much easier. The bird is from the Birds and Blooms sizzlit, and the leaves were cut using the Little Leaves sizzlit.

I received a promotional calendar in the mail last month; I liked the size and stand-up style of it, but wasn't crazy about the stock photos. That's when I got the idea to personalize it, Stampin' Up!-style.

I used Delightful Decorations and the Ornament punch on the December page. The flourish from Baroque Motifs makes a nice branch.
The January page features the penguin from Cold and Cuddly. A bit of sponging around the edges of the Bermuda Bay cardstock gives some added dimension.

Barrel of Monkeys

I made this little 3x3 monkey card today...

...and another, with girl monkeys!

I love making quick, cute 3x3 cards like these. The monkey stamp is from Fox & Friends, from the brand new Occasions Mini Catalogue. If you haven't heard the news yet, Stampin' Up! is offering clear mount rubber stamps for the first time ever, and let me tell you, they are fabulous! They produce the same crisp, clear images as the traditional wood-mount stamps but only require a fraction of the storage space.

Clear mount stamps allow you to easily see where you are placing your stamped image. This made positioning the monkey in a playful, tumbling pattern a cinch.
The "bundle of joy" sentiment is from the Little Angel set, also in the Occasions Mini.
The hand-cut flowers on the girl monkey is from the large branch image in Eastern Blooms.
Dazzling Diamonds added using the Two-Way Glue Pen give the monkeys some sparkle.

Like many other stampers out there, I struggle a bit with masculine cards. When I was faced with the challenge of creating a birthday card for my cousin, Rex, I started with the background and used a Stampin' Up! Texturz plate and my Big Shot to create a masculine-looking base.

I used the faux letterpress technique to get the black on the textured background. This technique is simple yet effective; you basically just ink up your Texturz plate with your choice of ink colour (I chose Basic Black) before running it through your Big Shot.
"All in the Family" and "Family Accessories" made the focal image fun and personalized to the recipient, an avid basketball fan and coach.
I added the dotted lines with my Chocolate Chip Stampin' Write marker to give the impression that the basketball is bouncing. Fun!
The sentiment is from "Teeny Tiny Wishes."
Don't forget to stamp your envelopes! This adds so much to a card. I continued the bouncy basketball motif on the envelope and added a sentiment from "Happy Everything."

Peppermint Patty Party Favours

I can't believe Christmas has already come and gone! I had a wonderful Christmas Eve and Christmas day with close friends and family. Hope all of your celebrations were just as special.

I couldn't stop at just one of these cute little boxes that I posted about last week, so I kept going and made a bunch as party favours for my guests to take home with them after Christmas dinner. I tucked two peppermint patties inside each box - a perfect fit!

Hi Stampers! Sorry, I've been missing in action for a little while; things were busy at school with Christmas activities and wrapping up before the holidays. I have the next two weeks off, which means more stamping time for me :)

I made this cute little box for a friend today. The box was originally designed to hold chocolates, but I thought it was just the right size to hold a small gift (a pair of sparkly snowflake earrings). The tutorial, by Beate Johns, can be found here.

Gift Tags Set

I whipped up this set of gift tags in a divided box tonight as a hostess gift. The instructions for the box can be found in this week's tutorial on Splitcoast Stampers. I used Delightful Decorations and the matching ornament punch from the Holiday Mini, as well as Christmas Punch, a level 2 hostess set. The Real Red Polka Dotted Grosgrain Ribbon adds just the right festive touch.
